Eagle Eye

In the film Eagle Eye I choose to classify to following actors; Shia LaBeouf is a wild card, Rosario Dawson is a wild card, and Billy Bob Thornton is a personality/ wild card. Shia LaBeouf is a wild card a wild card because he is able to go from one character type to another despite the fact that most of his films are action packed. Examples would be the Transformer trilogy, Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Eagle Eye. He is able to transform into different types of characters as well examples of these films are Holes, Lawless, and Wall Street. Rosario Dawson is also a wild card that can play multiple roles examples are Grindhouse, The Rundown and Unstoppable. Billy Bob Thornton is a personality actor which means the characters he plays are similar- strong minded, independent, and intimidating. Some examples of these films are Armageddon, Mr. Woodcock, and The Astronaut Farmer.

In the film Eagle Eye Shia LaBeouf is able to play a young man who feels that his worth is sub-par then you are able to see his character change into a courageous individual that saves the government officials. Rosario Dawson and Billy Bob Thornton are strong and determined FBI agents who want to discover the truth.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Title: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty                            W mitty

Writer: Steve Conrad

Director: Ben Stiller

Actors: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Jon Daly

Release Date: 25 Dec 2013

There are three basic categories of sound dialogue, sound effects and music. Dialogue is the way characters communicate throughout a film. Dialogue can be expressed in different ways such as formal, theatrical style even based on everyday life. Sound effects are more than just sounds created to add to the meaning of a scene. The use of sound effects of Foley and Walla are the tools that are used to build the entire film. Foley is a way to create natural sounding sounds. Wala is recording the sounds and the actual acting separately then piecing it together as a finished product. Music can be a score which is music that plays in the background and a soundtrack is a list of songs that played throughout the film. Both songs and scores can have specific places in the film and meanings as well.

I chose to the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, in this film Walter Mitty is shy, quiet and keeps to himself. Sound is a way that helps build his character to a stronger, more courageous and risk taking individual. An example is the music it starts soft and simple score a then later in the film the music gets bolder and sharper a way to express his character change. When Walter Mitty discovers a word spelled out in the picture the score makes the scene express curiosity. An example of soundtrack is when Walter is sitting in the bar and he hears the song Major Tom this song gave him courage to take a risk and to step outside of his comfort zone. In this film I think that the sound effect method chosen was wala. This film has action scenes which would make it difficult to capture the natural sounds in the surrounding areas an example is when a crew of seamen were attempting to rescue Walter when he jumped into the ocean.

The type of lighting used in the Equalizer is traditional three point lighting. The theme in this movie is an older man feels compelled to help a young girl stay alive and change her life for the better. Three point lighting worked well for this film because the cinematography was able to adjust the deepness of the shadows to make the scene feel more serious. Three point lighting helped this movie by creating suspense, every time the scene goes dark you can see the shadows pick up and get heavier and heavier.

The movie begins at night inside of a dinner with soft lights and deep shadows this aided the scene because Robert was talking to Teri who participated in the night life. If high-key lighting were used in this scene it wouldn’t have had the same affect you can’t display mystery or even curiosity with bright lights.

The film Unbroken is about a young boy named Louis Zamperini who was leading towards an unfavorable lifestyle until his older brother challenged him to be more than he was. His brother Pete inspired him to run and as long as he worked hard he could achieve great things in life, this mentality was carried with him throughout his life. After high school Louis became a military officer, he served his country as best he could until his plane crashed in the ocean. Louis and two of his comrades were lost at sea for over a month until there enemy the Japanese soldiers took them hostage. Louis’s determination, courage and self-reliance is what keep him alive for so long. His strength challenged the ideals of one of his captures but even when most would give up and take the easy way out he continued to move forward through all the challenges that he faced. This story is based on the real life of Louis Zamperini, after the war ended he was rejoined with his family and lived past eighty a life with no regrets.

This film is in chronological order it progresses form when Louis is a young boy to high school to an officer in the military from there he is a POW it shows how the seasons change also the weight loss is another indication of time. The use of time allows you to sympathize with the characters. Without using time and showing how it affected them as people I don’t think this film would have been a successful drama. Time will change ones mentality and moralizations but through all hardships Louis only got stronger.
